You, as the first named insured or certificate holder, are eligible for Involuntary Unemployment coverage if:

    • notification (orally or in writing) of pending unemployment within 60 days (in some states 60 day notification does not apply) before the effective date of this endorsement;
    • part-time employment (less than 30 hours per week).

Once the maximum number of benefits shown on your policy are paid, no further benefits will be paid for that period of unemployment.

A period of involuntary unemployment will be considered separate from the previous one if:

(a) the two are from totally unrelated causes; or
(b) you return to work and are gainfully employed at least 90 consecutive days before you become involuntarily unemployed again.

*This is a brief description of coverage. Please review the policy endorsement for complete details, limitations, exclusions. The purchase of this insurance is completely voluntary. 1. Agreement to Pay. By clicking below, you authorize the payee, American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida (ABIC) to debit your bank account or charge your credit card for the amount(s) and at the frequency and date set forth in this site or this Agreement. For recurring debits, an automatic withdrawal will be made in the amount of the balance due on your bill one (1) day prior to the invoice due date. In the event an initial payment or a renewal payment is rejected by your financial institution for insufficient funds, the policy will be deemed void and no coverage will be afforded to you, subject to applicable state law.

2. Termination Clause: This Agreement will remain in full force and effect until either party terminates this Agreement, which either party may do at any time upon prior written notice to the other party, which notice will be effective at the time of its receipt by the other party, although the effectiveness of any termination notice received by ABIC within ten (10) days of any payment date may, at the election of ABIC, be delayed until after such payment. If you wish to terminate this Agreement, you must send a confirmation of termination to [email protected] or mailed to American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, P.O Box 23852, Network Place, Chicago IL 60673-1238. If recurring payment from your credit card, checking account or savings account is rejected by your financial institution, ABIC will provide written notification to you and may terminate this Agreement.

3. Miscellaneous: ABIC shall not be liable to you for any special, incidental or consequential damages arising from any breach of the terms and conditions of this Agreement, or as a result of any delay, error or omission in any authorized recurring debit entry to be made, or from any act or omission of any financial institution, electronic funds transfer system, credit card issuer, operator or third party service provider, even if ABIC has been advised of the possibility of such damages. Each party shall bear all of the respective fees and other charges assessed by its designated financial institution(s). If an authorized recurring debit entry from your applicable account is rejected and no other provision is made for payment on or before the due date, payment will be considered delinquent. ABIC will have no obligation to provide notice of delinquency to you. ABIC reserves the right: (a) to adjust future authorized recurring debit entries from your account if any authorized recurring debit entry previously made is found to be duplicative, processed incorrectly, not at all, in excess of, or less than the required amount, (b) to choose the system used to process automatic bank or credit card debit entries and any third-party service provider it may use, and (c) to initiate debit or payment entries and adjustments from any authorized recurring debit entries made in error. ABIC is entitled to rely upon the information supplied by you on this website. Each automatic debit from your credit card, checking account or savings account, as applicable, will be made in accordance with the information you have provided in this enrollment form, or as any person purporting to represent you may otherwise specify in written notice received by ABIC. Why do I need liability insurance?

Imagine how much you may have to pay out of pocket if you accidentally start a fire. Liability coverage will pay for damage you accidentally cause to the unit as a result of fire, smoke, explosion and water damage.

Why does my community require liability insurance?

Liability coverage pays the community for damage caused as a result of Fire, Smoke, Water Damage and Explosion caused by residents.
Many renters do not realize that they are financially responsible for damage caused to the unit they are renting as a result of their negligence. For example, if you accidentally start a fire in your apartment that causes damage to the building, you are legally responsible for the damage. What if your neighbor upstairs leaves the water running in the tub and it overflows causing damage to your personal belongings as well as your unit? Since your neighbor is responsible for the damage, his liability policy will pay for the damage.

Please Note: This policy does NOT cover losses from flood.

Generally, the standard renter's insurance policy does not provide coverage for flooding, surface water that enters the home or rising water. However, coverage for these types of losses may be available through the Federal Government's National Flood Insurance Program ("NFIP") or through other sources.

You can obtain information about the National Flood Insurance Program by contacting your insurance company or your insurance agent or by going on the internet to www.FLOODSMART.GOV or by calling 1.800.427.4661. Here are some important facts you should know:

  • Flood insurance policies are available for any residence located in a community that is a participant in the NFIP.
  • Some landlords/lessors, as a condition and/or obligation of your lease, will require that you purchase and maintain certain types of insurance (for example, flood or liability insurance). You should confirm with your landlord/lessor or the NFIP, before signing your lease, if you are required to purchase flood or other types of insurance. Even if you are not required to purchase such insurance you should consider purchasing it as additional protection for your residence.
  • You do not have to be located in a special flood hazard area or be close to a body of water to experience flooding. The risk of flood is present for most residences as floods can be caused by storms, melting snow, heavy rains, dam failures or other causes.
  • You must complete a separate application in order to purchase flood insurance; it is not part of your renter's insurance application.
  • Flood insurance is available for your personal property (i.e., contents) located within your residence. A deductible will apply.
  • Generally, there is a thirty (30) day waiting period for a new flood insurance policy to become effective; although there are some exceptions to this general rule.
  • As flood insurance through the NFIP is created by federal law, flood claims are adjusted and paid in a different manner than your renters' insurance claims.

Your standard renter's insurance policy does not cover all risks. You may need to obtain additional insurance to cover loss or damage to your personal property and your liability or to cover the risks related to business or personal activities on your property.

In addition to the coverages that are part of the standard Renters Insurance Policy, we offer the following additional coverages that you may choose to purchase:

  1. Coverage for Water Damage - for losses that result from water backing up through sewers or drains
  2. Liability Coverage for Family Day Care providers registered family day care providers can purchase liability coverage in the amount of at least $300,000 to protect you against claims of bodily injury, property damage, or personal injury arising out of your activities as a day care provider.
  3. Replacement Cost Coverage - Provides replacement at time of loss at todays cost no depreciation.
  4. Involuntary Unemployment Coverage - If you are the first named insured and you involuntarily lose your job, this coverage will pay an elected limit of coverage to your landlord as rental payment. Joint coverage is also available for the first named insured and their spouse.
  5. Burglary Limitation Credit - A premium credit is available when you elect burglary coverage. This endorsement replaces theft coverage with burglary coverage. Burglary differs from theft in that it requires visible signs of forced entry when a loss occurs.
  6. Scheduled Personal Property - Items such as jewelry, furs and silverware have limited coverage under the policy. These items may be added to the policy in order to more accurately cover the value of the item(s).
  7. This statement provides a list of the types of additional insurance coverages that are available. Contact your insurance company, insurance producer or agent to discuss these optional coverages.
